Notre Dame cultivates a tight-knit boarding community where over 90% of students live on campus, creating what the school describes as "a home away from home." The culture centers on shared values, purposeful academics, and athletic excellence, with small class sizes (16–18 students average) fostering curiosity and independent thinking. House competitions throughout the year—dividing students into Gunner, Woodchopper, Marauder, and Badger Houses—build camaraderie and school spirit. The school's motto, "never lose heart," and its legacy rooted in faith, hard work, and high expectations shape a community where friendships become family and leadership becomes habit.
Notre Dame acknowledges its location on Treaty 4 Territory and honors the Cree, Ojibwe, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakota, Lakota nations and the Metis/Michif Nation. The school states it "respect[s] and honour[s] the Treaties" and acknowledges "all Nations, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, who live, work and play on this land." The school is Catholic in character but explicitly open to students of all faith backgrounds, maintaining an ecumenical outlook.
